4th Arab Film Festival Berlin - ALFILM

This year's ALFILM will take place November 5-11, 2012. The MAIN PROGRAMME will be presenting a panorama of contemporary Arab film production including feature and documentary films, as well as short films, experimental films and video art. The FOCUS section titled: "Generation Transit, Youth Culture and Political Change", consists of current and historic films as well as talks and discussions. This year’s RETROSPECTIVE is devoted to the Moroccan director Farida Benlyazid.

Milano Film Festival: Feature and Short Film Competitions

The call for entries for the seventeenth edition of Milano Film Festival is now open!
Feature Film Competition is open to first and second films of any genre (fiction, documentaries, animation films, experimental works), language, and format. The films must be over 45 minutes and completed after January 1st, 2011.
Short Film Competition is open to film of any genre, language and format, completed after January 1st, 2011. The competition is only open to directors born after May 31, 1972. The maximum running time for short films is 45 minutes.
State (T)error Competition is open to documentaries of any language, format and running time.

The Venice Film Festival

Rawi’s 8th annual Screenwriter’s Lab

In 2005 the Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC) launched Rawi (Storyteller), a screenplay development lab, in consultation with the Sundance Institute. Independent Arab screenwriters (Fellows) are offered the chance to develop their work in a uniquely creative environment under the guidance of internationally acclaimed screenwriters from all over the world (Creative Advisors).

Focus Forward

GE and CINELAN announced today the FOCUS FORWARD Filmmaker Challenge and plan to award $200,000 in cash prizes to the top five entries in the professionally juried Challenge (www.focusforwardfilms.com/challenge), with $100,000 going to the Grand Prize Winner. The Filmmaker Challenge is an expansion of the FOCUS FORWARD - Short Films, Big Ideas (www.focusforwardfilms.com), a series of 30 three-minute nonfiction films developed by leading documentary filmmakers about the incredible human power of ideas and invention that will screen at prestigious film festivals globally, followed by day-and-date distribution online to millions of viewers. The initiative was first announced at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
